Advocacy and influence
With a business as large and diverse as Carillion, we have both a responsibility and an opportunity to make a major contribution to sustainability.
We do this by working with industry bodies, sustainability organisations, and both central and local government to develop and promote best practice.
Carillion makes no donations to political parties. We are involved in regular consultation with central and local government. For example, we participate in UK Government working groups on policy development as around 60% of our UK revenue comes from public sector and regulated customers.
We are working to support UK Government procurement policy and practice through the Sustainable Procurement Taskforce. We also support a number of UK Government department initiatives; for example, we are working with the Department for Transport on research into the use of vehicle telemetry to encourage more fuel-efficient driver behaviour.
In 2010, we were involved in the Department for Communities and Local Government’s consultation on making better use of energy performance certificates and data. We have also worked with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on the development of the Flexible Framework for Sustainable Supply.
Here are some examples of our affiliations and memberships with industry and sustainability organisations.
